The helicopter is a dark shape against a pale evening sky, and its downwash fills the air with flying leaves and grit. Below it two Guardsmen look up from among the grass and their kit. In the foreground lies a heap of packs and equipment with a radio antenna sticking up, and a line of trees fades into the haze behind.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Coldstream Guards’ motto is Nulli Secundus, Second to None. It reflects the regiment’s claim to be older than the Grenadier Guards, even though it stands second to them in the order of precedence of the Foot Guards. The extraction in this photograph marked the end of a joint patrol with the Afghan National Army south of Patrol Base 3.
