The six-wheeled Mastiff comes head-on with her lights burning, tow ropes slung across her bar armour and a helmeted gunner behind the machine gun on her roof. The Ridgbacks follow under camouflage netting, the red containers rise above a line of blast barriers, and a rain puddle in the foreground reflects the convoy’s lights under a flat grey sky.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Mastiff is the British version of the American Cougar 6x6, with British armour and electronics fitted by NP Aerospace. The first examples reached Afghanistan in December 2006, and an improved Mastiff 2 followed in June 2009. The smaller four-wheeled Ridgback, from the same family, was ordered in October 2007 to give protected mobility on tighter routes, and together they carried British \u003ca title=\"British Army
