Behind it a gunner stands at the mounted machine gun on the leading Viking, and the rest of the column fades back into a cloud of dust under a pale summer sky. According to the caption, the patrol came under enemy fire moments later.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Ridgback was the up-armoured British version of the Cougar 4x4, ordered as an urgent operational requirement in 2008 and first entering service in Afghanistan in June 2009, the same month Panther’s Claw began. It could carry up to a dozen \u003ca title=\"British Army Personnel Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/british-army-personnel-photo-prints\"\u003etroops\u003c\/a\u003e, depending on the variant, with its V-shaped hull built to deflect blast from roadside bombs.
