Smoke drifts from the muzzle and across the flat desert, the low sun glows through the haze on the right, and the ground in the foreground is littered with spent brass cartridge cases. The gunners, from 127 (Dragon) Battery and Tombs’s Troop of 28\/143 Battery, were firing smoke rounds to screen ground \u003ca title=\"British Army Personnel Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/british-army-personnel-photo-prints\"\u003etroops\u003c\/a\u003e assaulting Taliban positions between Heyderabad and Mirmandab.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eTombs’s Troop takes its name from Major Henry Tombs of the Bengal Horse Artillery, who won the Victoria Cross at Delhi in July 1857 when he went to the rescue of a fellow officer under attack. 19th Regiment brought its Light Guns to Helmand in 2007 with 12 Mechanized Brigade, giving close fire support to the battlegroups on the ground.
