The troops are small figures strung out in a long, uneven line under a huge pale sky, some crouching beside their kit and others still on the move. One man near the centre carries a ladder on his back for crossing walls and ditches. Bare mountains rise on the left, and the flat, scrubby ground stretches away to distant hills on the right.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Black Watch takes its name from the dark tartan worn by the companies first raised to keep watch over the Scottish Highlands. Since 2006 it has served as \u003ca title=\"3 SCOTS Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/search?q=%223+scots%22\u0026amp;options%5Bprefix%5D=last\"\u003e3 SCOTS\u003c\/a\u003e, the 3rd Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, based at Fort George near Inverness.
