Her commander and a second crewman wear black berets in the turret, one of them behind the turret machine gun, while the driver and co-driver peer out of their hatches. She is caked in mud, with bedrolls and jerry cans lashed across her front, a tall aerial overhead and winter mist behind her.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e50th Royal Tank Regiment was formed in June 1939 as a duplicate of the 44th Royal Tank Regiment, a Territorial unit that had just been converted from the 6th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. It was in the Battle of El Alamein in 1942 and went on to fight in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Greece.
