Seen broadside with her left side to the camera, she has her long barrel raised high over the armoured cab, her rear stabiliser dug into the snow and chains on her tyres, with a remote weapon station on the cab roof and a forest of snow-laden pines behind her under a pale blue sky.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Archer was bought by the British Army in 2023 as a stopgap after the gift of AS90 self-propelled guns to Ukraine left a gap in its 155mm close support artillery. Unlike the tracked AS90, the Archer mounts its howitzer on a fast wheeled chassis with an automatic loader, so the crew stays inside the armoured cab while the gun comes into action, fires a rapid burst and drives off before the enemy can reply. British gunners trained first with the Swedish Artillery School before bringing the system home, and the Archer is planned to serve until the new RCH 155 wheeled howitzer arrives from the end of the
