Her riveted, angular turret and 2-pounder gun face forward over the hull, and the louvred radiator covers on the left of the front plate, the headlamps and the towing shackles are all clearly visible, with puddles and a few loose timbers around her tracks.

The Covenanter was designed by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway as a development of the A13 line, using the same Nuffield turret as the Crusader, and was the first British cruiser tank to be given a name. A mild steel pilot built at Crewe began trials in May 1940, and 1,771 were built by the LMS, English Electric and Leyland between 1940 and 1943. Her low engine bay left no room for a radiator at the rear, so it was moved to the front, and persistent cooling problems meant she was judged unfit for service in hot climates. The Covenanter equipped armoured divisions at home during the invasion threat and was then used for training until she was declared obsolete in 1943.

This print is ideal for Royal Armoured Corps and British Army veterans and anyone with a connection to British tank development in the Second World War.

Product
