The launcher sits level on its jacks with eight missiles on the rails either side of its domed tracker, a jerrycan strapped to the side and missile boxes stacked on a pallet behind. Beyond the temporary fencing, tall brick houses line the edge of the heath under a grey sky. It was one of six air defence sites set up around the capital for Exercise Olympic Guardian, the security rehearsal for the London 2012 Olympic Games.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eRapier entered service in the early 1970s and was used in the Falklands in 1982. The FSC version, short for Field Standard C, followed in the 1990s with eight ready missiles on each launcher and its own radars.
