A Grumman Avenger AS.3 of the Royal Canadian Navy flies low overhead. In this streamlined form her casing is clean and uncluttered, without a deck gun, and her periscopes and masts are raised above the fin. The \u003ca title=\"Royal Navy Aircraft Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-navy-aircraft-photo-prints\"\u003eaircraft\u003c\/a\u003e carries the Canadian roundel and fills the top of the frame against a wide, calm sea.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eArtful was built by Scotts of Greenock, laid down on 8 June 1944, launched on 22 May 1947 and commissioned on 23 February 1948. She took part in the Coronation Fleet Review of 1953. In 1955 she became the first of her class to be rebuilt and streamlined, the form she shows here. Joint exercises like this one gave Royal Navy submarines and Allied anti-submarine aircraft valuable practice in hunting and evading each other. She served on into the late 1960s, including a Home Fleet tour of the West Indies in 1967, was decommissioned in September 1969 and was broken up at Cairnryan in 1972.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp
