Fighters with their wings folded are lined up along the deck edge forward of her island, with more aircraft packed aft, weathered paintwork along her side and palm trees on the shore to the right.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eLaid down at Ingalls, Pascagoula, as the merchant ship Mormacgulf, she was completed as an escort carrier and commissioned into the Royal Navy under Lend-Lease on 9th April 1943. In early 1944 she became the first escort carrier to sail with a large Russian convoy, and over three days in March 1944, while covering convoy RA 57, her Swordfish shared in the sinking of U-472 with HMS Onslaught and sank U-366 and U-973 with rockets. Sailing for the Pacific in February 1945, she joined the 30th \u003ca title=\"Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-navy-aircraft-carrier-photo-prints\"\u003eAircraft Carrier\u003c\/a\u003e Squadron of the British Pacific Fleet, ferrying replacement aircraft forward for operations off Okinawa and Japan and carrying released prisoners of war home after the surrender. Returned to the US Navy in 1946, she became the Dutch merchant ship Aagtekerk and was eventually scrapped in Taiwan.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThis print is ideal for Royal Navy and
