Her twin 4.5 inch gun turret sits forward of the bridge, with radar aerials on her two masts and her pennant number standing out clearly on her side.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eOrdered from Yarrow in Glasgow as the Rothesay Class frigate Hastings, she was renamed Dido when she was completed to the new Leander design, and her launch in December 1961 was put back a day by fog. She commissioned in September 1963, and between 1975 and 1978 a Devonport refit replaced the gun turret seen here with the Ikara anti-submarine missile system, around the time she was also used to film the BBC series \u003ca title=\"Royal Navy Warships Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-navy-warship-photo-prints\"\u003eWarship\u003c\/a\u003e as HMS Hero.
