Her twin forward turrets, bridge and lattice mast with a hoist of signal flags stand out against a soft grey sky, with her pennant number painted on the hull.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eNamed after the Battle of Gravelines of 1588, when the English fleet defeated the Spanish Armada, she was built by Cammell Laird at Birkenhead and launched in November 1944, but went straight into reserve on completion. She joined the 3rd Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean in 1949, exchanged crews with her sister HMS St Kitts in March 1953 before another spell in reserve, and was back in the Mediterranean with the flotilla in 1955 and during the Suez Crisis the following year.
