A Union Flag flies at her jackstaff and an ensign aft, her banded funnel and forward guns stand out against a grey sky full of wheeling gulls, and a wooded shore rises on the left.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eBuilt by William Denny and Brothers at Dumbarton and completed in November 1936, she served with the Mediterranean Fleet before being sent to Freetown with Force K in 1939 to hunt German raiders, joining the watch off the River Plate for the damaged Admiral Graf Spee. Back in the Mediterranean, she escorted the fleet at Calabria, helped rescue about 525 survivors of the Italian \u003ca title=\"Royal Navy Cruisers Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-navy-cruisers-photo-prints\"\u003ecruiser\u003c\/a\u003e Bartolomeo Colleoni after the action off Cape Spada, and with HMS Havock sank the Italian \u003ca title=\"Royal Navy Submarines Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-navy-submarine-photo-prints\"\u003esubmarine\u003c\/a\u003e Berillo off Egypt in October 1940. She evacuated troops from Crete in 1941, and on 15th June 1942, covering a Malta convoy during Operation Vigorous, she was torpedoed by the German E-boat S-55, losing her bow and 13 of her men, and
