In this colour view from the quay, mooring lines run across the foreground beneath another ship’s Union Flag, while the American cruiser’s tall lattice masts, big radar aerials and gun turrets rise behind the frigate against a pale sky and the faint outline of the hills.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eBuilt by Harland and Wolff in Belfast and launched in July 1944, Loch Killisport was completed just as the Second World War was ending, and after periods in reserve she was modernised for tropical service and recommissioned in 1955 for the Persian Gulf. She was the first frigate to carry a \u003ca title=\"Royal Marines Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-marines-photo-prints\"\u003eRoyal Marines\u003c\/a\u003e detachment, and the first Royal Navy ship to pass through the Suez Canal after it reopened following the 1956 crisis.
