She is seen close up from just off her starboard bow, which throws up a heavy white wave beneath the long overhang of her flight deck. A Supermarine Scimitar fighter is parked at the deck edge beside the island, with roundels on its fuselage and tail and a serial beginning “XD2” painted large on its fin. Above it rises the island, crowned by the great round dish of her Type 984 radar, and a line of her crew can be made out along the edge of the deck.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eIn 1960 Victorious played a part on screen in the film Sink the Bismarck!, a fitting role for a ship whose Swordfish had scored a torpedo hit on the German \u003ca title=\"Royal Navy Battleships Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-navy-battleships-photo-prints\"\u003ebattleship\u003c\/a\u003e in May 1941. During the Second World War she covered Arctic convoys, escorted the Pedestal convoy to Malta in 1942 and, in the Pacific in May 1945, was struck twice by kamikaze \u003ca title=\"Royal Navy Aircraft Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-navy-aircraft-photo-prints\"\u003eaircraft\u003c\/a\u003e. Each time her armoured flight deck let her resume operations within hours.
