Seen from below on its right-hand side, the helicopter fills the top of the frame, with the code letters HG on its rear pylon and a crewman leaning from the forward window to watch the load. Beneath it a soldier in desert camouflage turns away from the bundle of boxes and netting, a looped cable swinging from one hand, as the strops tighten towards the cargo hook under a clear blue sky.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Joint Helicopter Support Squadron was formed in 1982, during the Falklands conflict, as the Joint Helicopter Support Unit, bringing together soldiers and \u003ca title=\"RAF Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-air-force-photo-prints\"\u003eRAF\u003c\/a\u003e personnel trained to prepare, rig and hook on loads beneath helicopters. It was reformed under its present name at RAF Odiham in September 2009, and in Helmand its teams rigged the nets and strops that carried supplies out to bases across the province.
