Finished in silver with yellow trainer bands, it carries the prototype “P” marking on the rear fuselage, with a pilot visible under the long, heavily framed canopy and the tailwheel still lowered.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eAvro designed the Athena to an Air Ministry requirement for a turboprop advanced trainer to replace the Harvard. Three turboprop T.1 prototypes were built, two with the Armstrong Siddeley Mamba and one with the Rolls-Royce Dart, and the first of them flew at Woodford on 12th June 1948. The requirement was then changed to the Merlin piston engine, and the Merlin-powered Athena T.2 first flew in August 1948. The RAF chose the rival Boulton Paul Balliol, so only 15 production Athenas were ordered.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThis print is ideal for Royal Air Force veterans and anyone with a
