It is seen from directly behind in an upright frame, its rear ramp lowered and a crewman in camouflage sitting on the edge with gloved hands resting on his knees. Both engines and the blurred blades of the rear rotor fill the top of the picture, the wheels hang down ready to touch, and the top of the base’s earth-filled barrier wall runs across the foreground under a pale blue sky.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe barrier walls that ring the base are Hesco Bastion units: collapsible wire-mesh cages lined with fabric that are filled with earth or rubble where they stand. They were invented by a British engineer, Jimi Heselden, whose Leeds company made them, and Camp Bastion itself took its name from them. For small, remote bases like Shawqat, ringed by such walls and often cut off by road, the \u003ca title=\"The story of the Chinook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/blogs\/british-military-aircraft-and-vehicles-guide\/boeing-chinook-helicopter-history\"\u003eChinook\u003c\/a\u003e was the main link to Bastion, bringing
