Seen almost head-on from the airfield edge, the Halifax still has its wheels down as the Horsa follows close behind and slightly lower on the tow rope, with a line of trees on the horizon and broken cloud filling the sky.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eNo. 295 Squadron was formed at RAF Netheravon in August 1942 as an airborne forces unit, flying Whitleys before adding Halifax Mk Vs in early 1943. Between June and early July that year its crews flew Halifax and Horsa combinations from Portreath to Sale in Morocco, a tow of around ten hours over the Bay of Biscay within reach of German aircraft, before the gliders went on to Tunisia for the invasion of Sicily.
