Only the upper left of the picture is clear, a patch of blue sky with thin streaks of cloud above the churning dust.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Merlin began life as the EH101, a joint British and Italian design by Westland and Agusta, who set up EH Industries in 1980 to build it. The Royal Navy took the first Merlins into service for anti-submarine work at sea, and the \u003ca title=\"RAF Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-air-force-photo-prints\"\u003eRAF\u003c\/a\u003e’s troop-carrying version followed.
