All six head towards the upper right of the frame, with the Gnat on the right-hand side among the red jets and none of them trailing smoke. Behind them rises a tall bank of white cloud, a thin contrail crosses the blue sky above, and the horizon tilts away to the lower right over hazy farmland.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Red Arrows did not begin as a nine-jet team. They flew their first season in 1965 with seven Gnats. The team grew to nine aircraft only in 1968, and that was when the Diamond Nine was first flown.
