Taken through the canopy of a neighbouring aircraft, the photo shows the nearest jet close alongside with ROYAL AIR FORCE on her fuselage and the “60” of the Diamond Season by the roundel and on her Union Flag fin, with more Hawks beyond her and blue smoke trailing behind. Far below, under a grey, broken sky, crowds fill the memorial’s terraces on the hillside, with white marquees nearby, a line of coaches parked along the road and Normandy farmland stretching away to the horizon.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Red Arrows were formed in 1964 and flew their first display season in 1965 with the Folland Gnat, changing to the BAE Systems Hawk for the 1980 season.
