The sun sits just above the jet in this upright frame, sending long rays out across the sky, while a thin line of white smoke runs back from her tail towards the top left corner. Her red paintwork, white flashes and wing roundels show clearly against the light, and no ground is in view, so the scene is simply aircraft, sky and sun.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Red Arrows were formed in 1964 and flew the Folland Gnat until the \u003ca title=\"Hawk Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/raf-fixed-wing-photo-prints\"\u003eHawk T1\u003c\/a\u003e took over for the 1980 season. Designed by Hawker Siddeley as an advanced jet trainer, the Hawk entered \u003ca title=\"RAF Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-air-force-photo-prints\"\u003eRAF\u003c\/a\u003e service in 1976 and has carried the team ever since, with white smoke made by injecting diesel into the hot exhaust and dye added for red and blue.
