Seen from the ground, the Hawks fly in a long stepped line from upper right to lower left of the frame, each trailing a band of smoke: red from the leading three, white from the middle three and blue from the last three. The parallel trails form a red, white and blue banner across a blue sky with broken white cloud. The event on Southsea Common, held on the date that many troops sailed from Portsmouth in 1944, was attended by HM The King, D-Day veterans and their families, and thousands of members of the public.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eA full Red Arrows display team is nine pilots, known as Red 1 to Red 9. The team leader flies as Red 1, and Reds 6 and 7 form the Synchro Pair, whose opposing passes make up the second half of the display.
