It was the team’s first display on home soil in its 60th season. Both jets are tipped steeply onto their sides with nose lights glowing, the left-hand Hawk almost wings-vertical and its partner rolled the other way. Between them hangs a thick cloud of red smoke, with drifts of blue and white filling the right of the wide frame against a pale sky.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Red Arrows plan three versions of their display and choose between them on the day according to the weather. The full display, with its loops and vertical manoeuvres, needs a high cloud base. A rolling display replaces the loops with wingovers and rolls when the cloud is lower, and a flat display keeps the formations level when the cloud base is lower still.
