XX219 is seen side-on from her starboard side, so her Union flag fin, white fuselage flash, roundel and Royal Air Force lettering run the full length of the frame. The pilot’s helmet shows through the canopy, and the second jet holds station just beyond her. Behind them, brown heather and grey rock rise to patches of lying snow under a pale blue sky.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eEach pilot joins the team for a three-year tour, so a few new pilots arrive every year and the formation is rebuilt from scratch over the winter. The team cannot display in public until a senior \u003ca title=\"RAF Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-air-force-photo-prints\"\u003eRAF\u003c\/a\u003e officer grants Public Display Authority at the end of pre-season training, and only then do the pilots swap their green flying suits for red. Behind the pilots is a large team of engineers and support staff, known as the Blues, who keep the Hawks flying through a season that in 2024 was the team’s 60th.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can
