The picture was taken on 20th September 2023, during the mixed flypast over Paris for King Charles III’s state visit to France. This upright frame looks down from just above and behind XX245, so the Union flag fin, roundel and serial fill the lower right of the picture. Below the jets, a river bends through dense suburbs and tower blocks that spread to the horizon under broken grey cloud. No smoke is being used in this part of the flypast.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe two teams fly aircraft from the same era. Both the Hawk and the French Alpha Jet were designed in the early 1970s as advanced jet trainers. The Alpha Jet was a joint Franco-German design from Dassault and Dornier. The Patrouille de France took it on in 1981, a year after the Red Arrows began displaying the Hawk, and both teams still fly them more than forty years later.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can read
