The tall canopy is raised and the cockpit is empty. The nose light sits between the two intakes, the wings slope down either side, and a red and white streamer hangs across the nose above the nosewheel, with its “Max Towing Angle” marking. Behind the little jet, low sunlight falls across the slatted grey doors of a hangar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Gnat entered \u003ca title=\"RAF Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-air-force-photo-prints\"\u003eRAF\u003c\/a\u003e service in the early 1960s as an advanced jet trainer, and it was small and nimble enough to suit formation aerobatics. In 1964 instructors at No. 4 Flying Training School flew a team of yellow Gnats called the Yellowjacks. The following year the team was repainted red and renamed the Red Arrows.
