Her serial is painted under the wing and fuselage beside a roundel, while a pale overcast sky fills the frame above the deck edge, a canvas-covered shelter and a few distant figures on the flight deck.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe Scimitar grew out of a long line of Supermarine naval jet prototypes, and WW134, which first flew in 1956, was the most representative of the three Type 544s, which is why she was sent to Ark Royal for these trials. The production Scimitar F1 entered service with 803 Naval Air Squadron in 1958 as the largest and most powerful \u003ca title=\"Royal Navy Aircraft Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/royal-navy-aircraft-photo-prints\"\u003eaircraft\u003c\/a\u003e the Fleet Air Arm had yet flown, and it was the last aircraft designed and built entirely by Supermarine, the company behind the \u003ca title=\"Spitfire Photo prints\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshireprints.co.uk\/collections\/raf-fixed-wing-photo-prints\"\u003eSpitfire\u003c\/a\u003e. WW134 herself ended her days on 24 October 1962, when she was deliberately launched without a pilot from HMS Centaur off Toulon during trials, and she lies on the floor of the
