Discover our Royal Navy R Class Submarines photo prints, featuring the first submarines in the Royal Navy designed from the outset to hunt other submarines. Ten boats were completed in 1918 and 1919, each with a single screw, a smoothly faired hull and an unusually large battery that made them faster submerged than on the surface, a remarkable feat for the time. They carried six bow torpedo tubes and sensitive hydrophones to listen for their quarry. Completed too late to see much service against the U-boats, most were scrapped in the early 1920s, though R4 was kept on for anti-submarine training until 1934. Available as high-quality photo prints or premium framed prints, they are perfect for collectors and enthusiasts of Royal Navy history.
