RAF 18 Squadron Chinook Underslung Load From Above October 2024 Photo Print
Looking straight down from above, a Royal Air Force Chinook carries a netted underslung load towards a desert landing site near El Centro, California, on 9 October 2024. Downwash from both rotors whips up a swirling brown cloud of dust around the aircraft, and the load hangs just below the fuselage. The flight was part of Exercise Vortex Warrior, flown by 18 Squadron Chinooks from RAF Odiham.
Underslung loads hang from the Chinook's cargo hooks under the fuselage, so vehicles, guns and stores can be moved without landing. Ground crew of the Joint Helicopter Support Squadron prepare and hook up the loads. In desert conditions the crew may lose sight of the ground in their own dust cloud just before touching down, so these approaches are practised again and again on the exercise.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
