RFA Stromness A344 Stores Ship January 1982 Photo Print
RFA Stromness (A344), a Royal Fleet Auxiliary stores ship, makes her way through a grey, choppy sea in this colour photograph from 1982, seen broadside on along her starboard side. Mist hangs low over the water and blurs the horizon, and scattered whitecaps break around her as white water lifts at the bow. The pennant number sits clearly on her grey hull beneath the lifeboats and replenishment rigs.
In the spring of 1982 Stromness sailed south with the Falklands Task Force, carrying men of 45 Commando Royal Marines and more than 2,750 tons of equipment. On 21 May she was the first Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship to enter Falkland Sound for the landings, and 45 Commando went ashore from her at Ajax Bay. Sold to the United States the following year, she served the US Navy as the combat stores ship USNS Saturn until 2009 and was sunk as a target in 2010.
This print is ideal for Royal Fleet Auxiliary veterans, Royal Marines of 45 Commando who sailed south in her, her 1982 ship's company, and anyone with a family link to the Falklands campaign.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
