42 Commando Royal Marines Canal Patrol Sond Chara December 2008 Photo Print
Royal Marines Commandos of Lima Company, 42 Commando, walk in a long, spaced-out line along the bank of a canal on patrol in Helmand, Afghanistan, during Operation Sond Chara in December 2008. The low winter sun is behind them, so the marines are dark shapes against a pale, misty sky, each with a helmet, a pack and a rifle held ready, and their long shadows stretch across the dusty track. The nearest marine, close to the camera on the left, is a blurred silhouette. The still water of the canal shines on the right, and a clump of bare trees and a tall, leafless tree stand against the sky.
Nad-e Ali, where Sond Chara was fought, was farmland created in the 1950s and 1960s under a US-funded irrigation scheme that brought water from the Helmand River through a network of canals and ditches. Those channels shaped every patrol. Their banks were often the only dry, raised routes across the fields, while the water and the steep sides cut down the ways in and out. Marines walked them in a long line with wide gaps between each man, so that a single bomb or burst of fire could not hit several at once.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
