42 Commando Royal Marines Operation Volcano February 2007 Photo Print
Royal Marines Commandos of Mike Company, 42 Commando, fight through a compound in the village of Barikju in northern Helmand during Operation Volcano, a deliberate operation to clear Taliban fighters from the area in February 2007. One marine stands and fires his SA80 rifle past the broken edge of a mud wall, with a cloud of smoke rolling out in front of him and a spent case spinning through the air. A second marine crouches below him in the foreground. Harsh sunlight cuts a sharp line of shadow across the cracked mud wall, and both men wear desert camouflage, helmets and body armour.
42 Commando was formed in 1943 and fought in Burma, including the battle of Kangaw in 1945. In the Falklands in 1982 it took Mount Harriet in a night attack. The commando deployed to Helmand with 3 Commando Brigade from autumn 2006, the first of several Afghanistan tours. Operation Volcano cleared a cluster of compounds near the Kajaki dam that the Taliban had been using as a base.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
