British Army 1 Welsh Guards Firing Panther’s Claw 2009 Photo Print
Guardsmen of 2 Company, 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, British Army, fire on suspected enemy positions from a gap in a mud compound wall during Operation Panchai Palang, better known as Panther’s Claw, in Helmand in the summer of 2009. One Guardsman crouches in the gap, aiming his SA80 rifle, with the Union flag patch on his sleeve catching the sun. Another crouches in the foreground with his back to the camera, his bayonet strapped to his body armour and a scrim net over his helmet. The company had occupied a compound overlooking Checkpoint Yellow 7, a contested bridge crossing that it was holding against the Taliban. Smoke drifts across the cracked mud walls, and bright weeds grow at their feet.
The Welsh Guards were formed in 1915 as the fifth regiment of Foot Guards. In 1982 the regiment suffered its heaviest single loss when the Sir Galahad was bombed at Fitzroy in the Falklands. On Panther’s Claw the battalion pushed up the Shamalan canal from 25 June 2009 to secure the crossing points. On 1 July its commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Thorneloe, was killed by an IED near the canal, the most senior British officer killed in action since the Falklands.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
