British Army 3 PARA GPMG Gunner Kenya February 2010 Photo Print
A soldier of A Company, 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, British Army, lies prone in dry grass firing a GPMG from its bipod to give fire support during Exercise Grand Prix 5 in Kenya, in February 2010. A burst of flame and white smoke leaps from the muzzle on the left of the picture, an ejected case glints above the gun, and the gunner presses his cheek to the butt beneath a helmet covered in scrim netting. Behind him a rocky ridge rises to the skyline, topped by the dark outline of a flat-crowned acacia against a pale sky. The battle group’s five weeks in Kenya ended with a week-long final exercise north of Nanyuki.
The GPMG, the British version of the Belgian FN MAG, has been the infantry’s belt-fed 7.62mm machine gun since the early 1960s, used on its bipod in the light role, as here, or on a tripod for sustained fire. The British Army has trained in Kenya for decades through the British Army Training Unit Kenya at Nanyuki, where heat, altitude and open bush make a hard test for units preparing to deploy. 3 PARA went on to Helmand that autumn on Operation Herrick 13, 16 Air Assault Brigade’s third tour of the province.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
