British Army 3rd RTR Comet Tank Lubeck May 1945 Photo Print
A British Army Comet tank of the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment, 11th Armoured Division, rolls away along a cobbled country road during the advance on Lübeck on 2nd May 1945, the last week of the war in Europe. Seen from behind with her right side showing, she carries bedrolls and tarpaulins lashed over her engine deck, jerrycans and a steel helmet hung on her turret, and a towing cable looped across her rear plate, while one of her two crewmen in the turret glances back at the camera past the hedgerows and telegraph poles.
The Comet was the last British cruiser tank of the war, a development of the Cromwell with a new turret mounting the 77mm high-velocity gun, which could deal with the Panther and Tiger. The 11th Armoured Division’s 29th Armoured Brigade, made up of the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment, the 23rd Hussars and the 2nd Fife and Forfar Yeomanry, began exchanging its Shermans for Comets in December 1944 and became the only British formation fully equipped with them before the German surrender. After crossing the Rhine in March 1945 the division drove across northern Germany to the Baltic, taking Lübeck on 2nd May, and the Comet remained in British service until 1958.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
