British Army Rolls-Royce Armoured Car Frontier Wire July 1940 Photo Print
A British Army Rolls-Royce armoured car passes through the Italian barbed wire on the Egyptian-Libyan frontier on 26th July 1940, six weeks after Italy entered the war. She is seen broadside with her right side to the camera, two of her crew looking out over the open-topped turret beside a Boys anti-tank rifle and a light machine gun, her side door open, kit lashed on her rear deck and the frontier fence of posts and wire running away across the flat desert.
The Rolls-Royce armoured car was first built in 1914 on the Silver Ghost chassis and served in the First World War and on the frontiers of the Empire between the wars, with improved patterns following in 1920 and 1924. By 1940 the 1924 pattern cars in Egypt, mainly with the 11th Hussars, had their old turrets replaced by open-topped ones carrying a Boys anti-tank rifle and a Bren gun. When Italy declared war in June 1940, these veteran cars crossed the frontier wire within hours, raiding Italian posts and helping to take Fort Capuzzo and Fort Maddalena, and they served on through the first desert campaigns before giving way to newer armoured cars in 1941.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
