Royal Navy Grumman Hellcat F.I Fighters in Flight 1944 Photo Print
Four Grumman Hellcat F.I fighters of 1840 Naval Air Squadron fly in close echelon high above hazy countryside on 23 June 1944, from the Royal Naval Air Station at Eglinton in Northern Ireland. The nearest aircraft carries the code letter G, with H behind her and E at the far end of the line, and the pilots can be seen in their cockpits. This is a black and white wartime photograph.
The Hellcat reached the Fleet Air Arm under Lend-Lease and was first named the Gannet in British service, taking its American name in 1944. 1840 Squadron formed in March 1944 and was unusual in that most of its pilots were Dutch naval aviators serving with the Fleet Air Arm, under a New Zealand commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Richardson. Within weeks of this photograph the squadron was in action off Norway, and Richardson was lost on 24 August 1944 during the carrier strikes on the German battleship Tirpitz.
This print is ideal for families of Fleet Air Arm fighter pilots of the Second World War and anyone with a connection to 1840 Squadron, RNAS Eglinton or the Dutch naval aviators who flew with the Royal Navy.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
