HMS Aeneas S72 Amphion Class Submarine 1972 Photo Print
HMS Aeneas (S72), an Amphion Class submarine, comes towards the camera close in, in 1972, with two men on the top of her fin, three sailors on the casing forward of it and one more aft beside the ensign staff. Her ship's badge is mounted on the fin, a long pennant streams aft from its top, and on the mast above sits the multi-tube missile launcher she carried for trials that year, with buildings on the far shore behind her.
In 1972 Aeneas was lent to Vickers to trial the Submarine Launched Airflight Missile, known as SLAM, a mast-mounted launcher firing Blowpipe missiles and intended to let a surfaced submarine defend herself against helicopters. The system was not adopted by the Royal Navy. Aeneas herself was placed on the disposal list in 1973, sold on 14 November 1974 and broken up at Dunston on Tyne. Earlier, in 1967, she had a brief screen career, playing the submarine M1 in the James Bond film You Only Live Twice.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
