HMS Ambuscade F172 Type 21 Frigate July 1989 Photo Print
HMS Ambuscade (F172), a Royal Navy Type 21 frigate, heads out past the waterfront at Devonport in July 1989, seen from her port side under a hazy blue summer sky. Sailors line the forecastle by the 4.5-inch gun and gather on the quarterdeck aft, a string of signal flags flies from her mast and the White Ensign stands out at the stern, while a large arched dockyard shed and a tower crane sit on the shore behind her.
The Type 21 was a private design by Vosper Thornycroft, drawn up with Yarrow, rather than one produced by the Admiralty's own designers. The class was the first group of Royal Navy frigates designed from the start around all gas turbine propulsion, pairing Rolls-Royce Olympus engines for speed with Tyne engines for cruising, which gave them a quick getaway from harbour and made them popular ships among their crews.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
