HMS Antelope F170 Type 21 Frigate June 1975 Starboard View Photo Print
HMS Antelope (F170), a Royal Navy Type 21 frigate, is shown broadside on from the starboard side, again on 30 June 1975, making steady way through a slight sea. A column of lighter smoke drifts up from her funnel, several of her crew are gathered on the after deck by the ensign staff, and her name can be made out in small letters on the hull near the stern.
In the Falklands War of 1982 Antelope went into San Carlos Water to protect the landings. On 23 May she was attacked by Argentine Skyhawks and hit by two bombs that failed to explode; one aircraft struck her mast and crashed. That evening one of the bombs went off while an Army bomb disposal team were working on it, killing Staff Sergeant Jim Prescott, and the fires that followed set off her magazines. The photograph of that explosion became one of the best-known images of the war, and she broke her back and sank the next day.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
