HMS Ark Royal R07 Invincible Class Aircraft Carrier February 1986 Port Side Photo Print
HMS Ark Royal (R07), a Royal Navy Invincible Class aircraft carrier, moves slowly along the IJ at Amsterdam on 10 February 1986, three months after commissioning. Her full port side is turned towards the camera. Sea Harrier jets are parked forward near the ski jump and Sea King helicopters stand amidships. Smoke drifts from her twin funnels, and the White Ensign flies from her stern. A small launch runs alongside and a tug works at her stern, while the tall Shell office tower with its crown-shaped top rises on the waterfront behind her, and factory chimneys show on the far left.
The Invincible Class were designed around the Sea Harrier, a jet that could take off from a short deck. Ark Royal, the last of the three, was completed with a steeper ski jump than her sisters had at first, giving her aircraft a better launch with heavier loads. Paired with the Sea King, which hunted submarines and later flew airborne early warning, the Sea Harrier made her a compact but capable carrier for the last years of the Cold War. The Harrier was withdrawn after the 2010 defence review, and Ark Royal was paid off the following March, years earlier than planned.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
