HMS Auckland L61 Egret Class Sloop January 1939 Photo Print
HMS Auckland (L61), a Royal Navy Egret Class sloop, is shown in January 1939, only months after she was completed, lying almost broadside on with her port side to the camera. She wears a light peacetime paint scheme, two twin 4-inch gun mountings are stepped up forward of her bridge, and gulls hover over the water around her two masts. There is no pennant painted on her hull yet, and the sea is flat under a pale sky.
She was ordered from William Denny and Brothers of Dumbarton in 1937 under the name Heron, and was renamed Auckland when she was launched on 30 June 1938. After early war service she went to the Mediterranean, where she joined the Tobruk Run supplying the besieged garrison. On 24 June 1941, while escorting the oiler Pass of Balmaha to Tobruk in company with HMAS Parramatta, she was dive-bombed by a large force of Axis aircraft, hit several times and sank.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
