HMS Aurochs P426 Amphion Class Submarine July 1948 Photo Print
HMS Aurochs (P426), a Royal Navy Amphion Class submarine, lies in the harbour at Rotterdam on 16 July 1948, with her starboard side towards the camera. A line of her ratings is fallen in on the forward casing, and an officer stands alone nearer the bow. Her deck gun sits at the front of the conning tower, and her masts and periscope standards rise behind the bridge, with jumping wires running fore and aft and an ensign at the stern. In the misty background are the port’s cranes, warehouses and moored craft.
Aurochs was built by Vickers-Armstrongs at Barrow-in-Furness. She was laid down on 21 June 1944, launched on 28 July 1945 and commissioned on 7 February 1947, one of the large, long-range Amphion Class boats designed for the war against Japan that came too late for it. She took part in the Coronation Fleet Review of 1953. In May 1958, while on patrol in the Molucca Sea off Indonesia, she was machine-gunned by an unidentified aircraft, without damage or casualties. Unlike most of her sisters she was never modernised. She was decommissioned in 1966 and broken up at Troon in 1967.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
Your order will be crafted by award-winning framing technicians based in central England, with decades of combined experience. Using the finest FUJI professional photographic papers and premium materials, they ensure exceptional print and frame quality.
Our hand-picked craftsmen and women work with state-of-the-art printing and cutting equipment, yet every frame is still assembled by hand and subject to rigorous quality checks. Their dedication consistently results in outstanding work, appreciated by many returning customers.
