HMS Aurora F10 Leander Class Frigate 1972 NATO Squadron Photo Print
HMS Aurora (F10), a Royal Navy Leander Class frigate, leads a column of NATO warships across a deep blue sea in 1972, in this colour view of her starboard side with “F10” on her hull and a white wake streaming astern. Her twin gun turret sits on the forecastle, and above the bridge rise her masts and the large rectangular aerial of her long-range air search radar. Following in line astern are the Dutch frigate Hr.Ms. Evertsen (F815) and the West German frigate Braunschweig (F225), with another ship visible further back on the horizon.
All three were serving with NATO’s Standing Naval Force Atlantic, the alliance’s permanent squadron of escorts drawn from several member navies, which sailed and trained together as a single force. The pairing in this photograph is a close one. The Dutch Van Speijk Class, to which Evertsen belonged, was built to a design based on the British Leander, so Aurora and the frigate astern of her were near relations. For a Royal Navy ship’s company, a spell with the squadron meant months of exercises and port visits on both sides of the Atlantic alongside allied crews.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
