HMS Avon K97 River Class Frigate 1943 to 1945 Photo Print
HMS Avon (K97), a River Class frigate, moves steadily across a calm sea with her starboard side towards the camera, her pennant number painted large near the bow. She wears a wartime disruptive paint scheme along her hull and superstructure, and a trail of smoke rises from her single funnel beneath a heavy, clouded sky. The photograph dates from her Royal Navy service between 1943 and 1945.
Named after the River Avon, she was built by Charles Hill and Sons at Bristol, where she was laid down on 8 January 1943, launched on 19 June and commissioned that September. River Class frigates were larger and longer ranged than the Flower Class corvettes, designed to escort convoys across the whole width of the Atlantic. In 1949 she was sold to Portugal and served as the NRP Nuno Tristao until she was broken up at Lisbon in 1972.

Framing & Mounting
We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
The final frame size and proportions may vary slightly based on the image ratio. Occasionally, frames may need to be a little taller or wider than the chosen size; however, they will never be smaller than the specified dimensions.
