HMS Birmingham D86 Type 42 Destroyer High Port Bow View Photo Print
HMS Birmingham (D86), a Royal Navy Type 42 destroyer, drives through a moderate sea in this undated black and white photograph, taken from high above her port bow. A curling bow wave rolls back along her hull, the 4.5 inch gun and twin Sea Dart launcher sit on the forecastle, and the large bedstead-style aerial of her long-range air search radar rises just behind the bridge, an early fit that points to her first years in service.
Birmingham was one of the first batch of Type 42 destroyers, laid down by Cammell Laird at Birkenhead on 28 March 1972. Lady Empson, wife of Sir Derek Empson, launched her on 30 July 1973, and she was commissioned on 3 December 1976. The class was built around the Sea Dart area air defence missile, giving the fleet cover against attacking aircraft.

We provide a bright white mount as standard. If you prefer an alternative colour, please contact us. Depending on the print's size and orientation, we may occasionally need to adjust the mount's size or shape to ensure the best presentation.
Our frame selection is extensive, and due to website limitations not every style can be listed. If you have a particular colour or design in mind, please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss available options.
