Deployed as part of the Royal Navy’s Joint Expeditionary Force (Maritime) Task Group, HMS Bulwark returned to Plymouth in December 2016 following an extended deployment in company with HMS Ocean. This striking aerial image captures the Albion Class assault ship as she enters Plymouth Sound, with the city visible in the background and a warm homecoming awaiting the ship’s company.
The task group was commanded by Commodore Andy Burns, Commander of the UK’s Amphibious Task Group. More than 600 family members and friends were expected on the jetty to welcome loved ones home for Christmas, with the return marked by a helicopter flypast and a gunfire salute as HMS Bulwark passed through Plymouth Sound.
HMS Bulwark was the second unit of the Albion Class assault ships built for the Royal Navy. She was one of the United Kingdom’s two landing platform docks, designed to put Royal Marines ashore by air and by sea. As a major amphibious warfare vessel, HMS Bulwark played an important role in projecting Royal Navy and Royal Marines capability during exercises, deployments, and international engagement visits.

look, occasionally, some cropping or resizing is needed depending on the image selected, our framers use their wealth of knowledge and skill to produce the most aesthetically pleasing finish possible, this can sometimes mean that we build a slightly different shape frame from the preview shown, we guarantee that the finished product will be of similar size or larger.
